How are the Budget Safaris in Tanzania?
Do you want to experience the “Wild Africa” in an authentic way? Then a camping safari is for you! Tanzania Camping-Budget Safari packages are the most pocket friendly compared to Tanzania Lodge Safari Packages or Tanzania Luxury Safari Packages. Many of our visitors choose to stay in tents in order to be close to nature and to the National Parks’ beautiful landscapes.
Our clients who choose this option will have their tents assembled for them each evening and collapsed again in the morning by our staff, with the tents being packed away and stored on the vehicle, for use again the following evening.
Tanzania Camping Budget Safaris are rewarding experiences because visitors feel like they’re participating in a real African adventure, but still have all the services of safari drivers, and or guides, to take care of all their needs. While on camping safari you will have a chef who will be preparing delicious fresh foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Tips for a Budget Safaris.
#1 | Travel in a Group
Needless to say that traveling in a group is a great way to bring your costs down.
While Wild Excursions & Safaris does arrange group tours, our vehicles can comfortably accommodate up to six people per car.
If you’ve got a few friends who could be convinced to come on safari with you, this can be a significant way to bring your costs down.
One of the biggest costs of a safari in Tanzania is car hire and car fees. These are split between everybody in the car, so the per person cost is significantly lower in a group of six or more than a group of two.
# 2 | Go Camping
There are a lot of tremendous lodges and tented camps in Tanzania, but these can quickly starts to add up over a longer itinerary.
If you don’t need creature comforts such as a King-sized bed and an ensuite bathroom, camping in Tanzania can be a great way to save money.
Pitching a tent under the Serengeti stars, Karatu breeze or on the shores of Lake Natron is an unforgettable experience!
Wild Excursions & Safaris provides all camping equipment as well as the services of one of our private chefs, so you won’t be roughing it, either.
Whether it’s a few nights on the Serengeti Plains or a camping only safari, Wild Excursions & Safaris staff will be on hand to make it as comfortable and fun as possible.
# 3 | Visit during the Low Season
April to Early June marks Tanzania’s rainy season. While this doesn’t mean that it rains constantly, it does make tented camps a muddy prospect.
While the wet surroundings give animals more sources of water, making them a bit harder to spot, a wet season safari can still be an astonishing experience.
Luxury lodges from Serena all the way up to the Four Seasons Serengeti lower their rates to attract tourists during this time of the season.
If you’ve ever daydreamed of swimming in the well known Four Seasons infinity pool or staying at Tarangire Treetops, this is the ideal opportunity!
Even if you aren’t splashing out on extravagant luxury lodges, staying in Sopa and Serena properties during low season is actually cheaper than staying in medium properties in high season!
If your vacation time is flexible, a wet season safari is the ultimate way to have a great safari on a shoestring.
# 4 | Avoid the Crater Rim
The opportunity to spend a night on the Ngorongoro crater rim may be a hard one to defy.
Crater rim lodging not only affords you an exceptional view of Ngorongoro Crater but also allows you early access to the park.
Many crater rim properties are located inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and put you closest to the gate to realize entry to the crater.
However, this convenience comes at a cost. Crater rim properties aren’t only costlier than Karatu properties but also attract a $59 concession fee meaning you will be paying up to 3 times more for your night’s sleep!
#5 | Make it a dry Holiday
All of Wild Excursions & safari tours include all of your meals but only a few properties in Tanzania issue an all-inclusive package. This means that you’ll be cashing out of your own pocket for every sundowner, for glass of wine, or ice cold beers.
We’re not saying you are supposed to cut alcohol out of your trip completely! But restricting yourself to a cocktail for a special occasion or a single beer with dinner can lead to huge savings over the course of your trip.

Without forgetting that your safari vehicle comes with a refrigerator!
If you’re somebody who enjoys a few beverages while you’re on vacation, speak to your driver about buying some beers or wine while you’re in Arusha then put them in your fridge and have a constant supply of cold beers on your entire trip!
In this camping budget safaris, tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, chairs, tables, cooking wear, and other camping equipment are provided by Wild Excursions & Safaris.
Thinking about safety while camping inside the national parks with wild animals? Rest be assured that it’s very safe, as we have armed rangers patrolling and guarding the campsites at all times.
It’s an amazing life-time Experience!!!
